Isaac Newton Academy
Isaac Newton Academy is located in the western hills of Juarez, Mexico. There it serves the children of Emmanuel Children's Home and the surrounding neighborhood.
The children of Emmanuel Children's Home would normally attend the public school. Unfortunately, the public school fails to meet the needs of these children. The children's true needs are often ignored by teachers, and they face discrimination because of their situation. The public school classrooms are overcrowded, often with 35 to 40 students with one teacher. Even after attempts to work with public schools, it was obvious that the children from the home were falling between the cracks and did not receive the educational opportunities they needed to succeed.
In August 2003 Isaac Newton Academy started with 20 preschool and kindergarten students. New grades were added each year and now all of our preschool through sixth grade children receive a Christian education right here on our campus.
The children of Emmanuel Children's Home suffer many disadvantages because of their lack of healthy family circumstances. By working with them in a caring Christian school setting we believe that they can graduate from elementary school with the skills needed to succeed in their next steps. As these children do not receive much one-on-one time with a parent, the individual and small group instruction from loving teachers allows them to develop into confident and independent students who will influence this world in a positive way.
Many of our children have learning and emotional disorders. However, we find that we are able to help them succeed by offering them individual and group instruction at their level; something not possible through the public school system. We provide opportunities for spiritual growth through weekly Bible lessons, character education, encouragement and loving discipline. We created a curriculum which covers all the main subjects, and is drawn from many resources. We also provide English lessons and computer classes starting in kindergarten.
These children, who once cried and begged not to go to school, now arrive each morning at Isaac Newton Academy excited to learn. Each child is encouraged to explore and use their God-given talents and abilities while being stretched and challenged to reach their full potential.
The cost for educating one child at Isaac Newton Academy is approximately $1,100 per year. This covers the cost of the teachers' salaries, curriculum, classroom supplies, administrative staff and supplies, and building maintenance.
Donations of actual items (school supplies, Spanish books, furniture, small prizes, etc) or funds for us to purchase those items are gladly accepted. Checks should be made payable to Emmanuel Ministries with a designation on the memo of the check (Isaac Newton Academy) so that the funds will be used accordingly.
We also welcome you to Adopt a Class. Information about how to adopt a class is located on our website.
